Sarah Raven’s open day at Perch Hill

Nature plays the starring role in this brand

It was a genuine delight to visit Sarah Raven’s last open day of the summer season at Perch Hill, near Robertsbridge in Sussex.

Ever since we saw her gorgeous garden at Chelsea this year, it has been on our list of places to visit and it didn’t disappoint.

Perch Hill was a feast for the senses in everyway and ties together all aspects of the Sarah Raven ‘brand’ beautifully.

Framed by the backdrop of the South Downs and wonderful mellow buildings, the numerous discrete gardens glowed with over 70 varieties of dahlia. These were accompanied by the amelanchier, hydrangeas and mulberry of the newly renovated, Vermeer-inspired ‘Dutch Yard’.

Adding to the experience were delicious homemade cakes, exquisite floral decorations and a photogenic cameo to greet us round every corner.

Some of the most memorable brands are those that emanate from a palpable passion. This certainly is one of them.

We will be back to experience the riot of tulips in the Spring.
