Reed Brand Services:

  • School Brand Identity: School Branding System
  • Print: Prospectus, promotional literature
  • Uniform: sports kit,
  • Signage: Exterior and interior
Renowned for it’s distinct Jesuit educational ethos and respected by local schools for its rugby reputation, Wimbledon College is an urban boys’ faith comprehensive school not one, but two identities. Both feature the historical symbols of the Society of Jesus. The main public facing version is more detailed and ornate while internal version is a shorthand for use throughout the school grounds and on school sportswear.

Working with Reed Brand has brought a focus and clarity to our design projects.  They are genuinely interested in the identity and work which they are branding, and designing for, and ask good questions which have helped better articulate our own vision and expression of what we are trying to achieve.

The engagement in thoroughly professional but always friendly.

As much time is taken as is needed to achieve a result that both client and designers are happy with.

The finished results look excellent and have provided a library of logo and design elements which have worked well in a variety of formats and for different audiences.

With Reed Brand there is no problem going back and asking for further tweaks and variations which allows us to have confidence that the design needs of our work is robustly supported.

Back Story

Like many other schools Wimbledon College had amassed an interesting collection of logos over the years and when Adrian Porter arrived as Head it was time for some rationalisation and a refreshed look.
Wimbledon College Old Logo

Adrian set us an unusual and interesting brief. He was well-versed in Jesuit imagery and requested that we focus on the sunburst motif. In addition, he requested that we create 2 logos. The first was to be an ornate version to represent the school to the outside world. The second a simpler shorthand for use within the school grounds and the community.

We combined the ancient emblem with a contemporary font which was common to both versions of the logo and set to work on the School Identity System. It was a great discipline writing the rules for not just one but two logos and to be used with ease by the Deputy Head who took bravely to charge of the on-going implementation with no prior experience .
